Southampton City Council is currently developing ambitious regeneration plans for the city including a scheme for the central business district surrounding Southampton Central railway station which will enhance public transport for the entire city and bring forward new city centre homes. Southampton will also benefit from a transformation of the unique waterfront which will attract visitors through world-class public realm and improved connectivity to the city centre. Southampton’s waterfront will also benefit from a multi-million pound flood alleviation scheme along the River Itchen, enabling even further development opportunities.

Investment opportunities include:

  • Over £100 million to transform transportation across the city.
  • £70 million on River Itchen Flood Alleviation Scheme which will open up development opportunities.
  • Over £1 billion of development opportunities in the city centre.
  • £300 million of development at Leisureworld (est. 1,000 jobs).
  • £500,000 investment in people, employment and skills (including a unique DWP partnership).
  • Southampton is one of 20 cities in the UK with accelerated housing growth targets. The 35% uplift means Southampton is forecast to deliver over 26,000 new homes by 2040. To deliver this, Southampton City Council is working with housing associations and developers to increase the pace of delivery and enable more housing supply and affordable homes including shared ownership. 33 new sites representing over 135 acres of land submitted by residents and businesses in two recent ‘Call for Sites’ exercises, helping to inform site allocations for the new Local Plan.
  • £57 million investment in the Hampshire wide Transforming Cities Fund programme.

Bargate Quarter:
