The university’s new £11m Future Technology Centre (FTC) is only an example of its interest in research. The centre, which is of the highest standards, is a perfect place for the innovative engineers of the future who aim at gaining first-hand experience and develop creative answers to the next generation of challenges. Since opening, the centre has already achieved excellence in areas such as cosmology, forensics, cyber security, epigenetics, and brain tumour research.
The Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) has been at the forefront of marine biology for over 70 years, and is a key part of the university. Supported by our bespoke marine consultancy capacity and a broad marine expertise, it offers a wide range of excellent facilities, available both for commercial and research use.
The local and national impact of the University of Portsmouth is very impressive: in 2015-16, it generated £624m in the Solent Region and £476m in Portsmouth, adding more £1.1 billion to the UK economy. It is No.1 university in the UK for boosting graduate salaries (The Economist, 2017), and 97.5% of its graduates are either working or in future study.
