Winchester Science Centre transformation

Tuesday June 18th, 2019

Winchester Science Centre is to start a £1.1million transformation to the centre.

Thanks to a grant of £500,000 from the EM3 Local Enterprise Partnership, the science centre is  embarking on a full upgrade to the planetarium in June 2019.

A second stage of development, to reimagining of the Science Centre’s upper exhibition floor in spring 2020 is being supported by Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council.

Mark Watson, Head of Planetarium at Winchester Science Centre said: “I’m really looking forward to making the most of the new technology to improve our visitors’ experience, particularly for visitors with visual and hearing impairments. The new system can support the use of personal audio tracks and subtitled and British Sign Language shows which we will be developing as part of our planetarium programme set to launch this summer.”

Evans & Sutherland and Skypoint Planetariums, world-leaders in digital planetariums, have been chosen to deliver the planetarium upgrade.
