New life for Daedalus Waterfront in flagship project for Homes England

Thursday July 9th, 2020

Homes England has appointed Avison Young to seek expressions of interest from experienced investors, developers or owner occupiers for the Daedalus Waterfront site in Gosport, Hampshire.

Daedalus Waterfront is an important redevelopment opportunity within the Solent Enterprise Zone, in a prominent position overlooking the Solent and the Isle of Wight which has benefited for significant public investment to support and service its redevelopment. The site also includes attractive former naval buildings suitable for refurbishment and conversion and provides water access to the Solent for companies in the marine industry and leisure use.

Homes England is seeking interest from parties with a clear vision to transform Daedalus Waterfront into a thriving and successful waterfront mixed-use development including exciting opportunities for commercial, leisure, elderly living, retail, industrial and residential use.

Daedalus Waterfront forms part of the Solent Enterprise Zone which is already home to Solent Airport, the highly successful Fareham Innovation Centre and Fareham College’s specialist engineering campus CEMAST, as well as a growing cluster of businesses across the aviation, aerospace and marine sectors.

Expressions of interests are invited to undertake development of the 18-hectare site (45 acres) either as a whole or in part, providing a unique opportunity to create a sense of place benefitting from the heritage of the site and integrating with the wider community of Lee-on-the-Solent.

The airfield at Daedalus is steeped in military history and was used as a seaplane base in the First World War. Named ‘Daedalus’ after the ingenious craftsman of the same name, a Fleet Air Arm station was created there and has been used as a training centre by both the RAF and the Royal Navy over the years.
