Aerospace: Helping businesses soar

The UK aerospace sector continues to reach new heights, generating new jobs, high tech exports and securing the UK’s global position as a leader in the sector.

More than a quarter of all aerospace and defence businesses in the UK are clustered in the South East of England; in the last seven years, the sector has soared to new heights, growing at an astonishing rate; 72% of that growth has taken place in Hampshire and Surrey.

World leading aerospace and defence businesses such as BAE Systems, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, GE Aviation and more recently Gulfstream have chosen to invest here and are leading the way in innovation; the UK is now the place to invest in the aerospace sector.

Above and beyond

The South East is the UK’s invention and innovation hub, encompassing artificial intelligence (AI), digitalisation, autonomy, space propulsion systems – serving multiple sectors including aerospace, automotive and marine. Almost 9 out of 10 of aerospace businesses in the Farnborough region undertake innovation-related activities.

A global brand

Farnborough has been synonymous throughout the world with aviation. Every other year, the world-famous Farnborough International Airshow attracts more than 80,000 trade visitors, representing 112 countries. In 2018 the show was staged at the new £33m conference and exhibition centre, and deals worth $192bn were announced.

TAG Farnborough Airport is a key economic asset for Hampshire and the UK, being Europe’s premier business aviation airport. Soon to arrive at TAG Farnborough Airport is leading US executive jet manufacturer Gulfstream with a £50M investment to establish a European service centre at the airport.
