The Spark
A new conference centre
Solent University is a dynamic modern university, focused on creating opportunities for its students, as well as establishing partnerships to develop innovative projects.
Driven by its focus on research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, Solent University has been undertaking a broad range of regional/national projects across four different research areas. It is an active member of the “Knowledge Transfer Partnerships”, and of the “Innovation Network (IN)”, along with the University of Southampton.
It also works with the cruise industry, providing training for Carnival, Maersk Crewing, Viking Recruitment, Chiltern Maritime, Bibby Ship Management and the Norwegian Cruise Line.
The topics majorly addressed range from creative and digital industries, business and society, sport, health, wellbeing, to maritime, technology and environment. The institutionalisation of the Warsash School of Maritime Science and Engineering as part of the university curricula demonstrates the ambition to research and specialise in maritime business, yacht design, and engineering.
Not long ago, Solent University invested in a new £30m building, The Spark. The conference centre overlooks Southampton’s East Park, and it is well-connected. It has been recently awarded the title of best conference venue by the CN Academic Venue Awards.
